We're proud to announce that we're now on our way to becoming organic; as of this season we have gone chemical free in our orchard. Along with the introduction of our new chemical free apples, we will continue to offer the same environmentally responsible apples we have for the past 15 years.
This year looks to be very great for our Chemical Free U-Pick. Our U-Pick is available during normal store hours and we have slashed our prices to only $ 0.75/lb.
Our decision to start our Chemical-Free process has been based on the rising popularity of the health and safety benefits to eating apples that are organic, or in our case, that are transferring to this status. (Though there is a stage in which we are simply chemically-free, as it takes time to have a completely organically producing orchard.)
One reason to choose chemical-free apples over their counterparts is that apples are already known to have the highest pesticide residue content of all other domestically grown fruits and vegetables.
Also, scientists and botanists (Plant experts) are not sure how these pesticides that are commonly used on apples affect the environment and animals around them. One pesticide commonly used, Syngenta, is under scrutiny for links to Parkinson's Disease cases, which has no known cure.
Organic apple orchards only account for 6 percent of apple acreage in the country, even though organic fruits are a very popular and recent change in American's diets. If each person in the U.S. ate only a few more organic apples each month, that would translate into more opportunity for farmers to convert to organic growing methods, and because apples grow in all 50 states, this means there is also opportunity to immediately increaseorganic farming as well, allowing more farmers to generate income in their own communities.
